Ireland by Boat: The 15 Best Cruises and Ferry Trips

31 reviewed

A river cruise through the middle of Dublin, a sailing out under the Cliffs of Moher, a bay full of drumlin islands off Westport. What separates these boat trips is what you see from the water: how long each runs, whether there is commentary or a bar aboard, how it handles a rough day, and the fare.

Galway to Inisheer and the Cliffs of Moher, with a ferry, boat cruise under the cliffs, live commentary, and smart timed stops.

“This trip was the highlight of our entire trip - so well done!!! The tour guide Phil was the best tour guide we ever had, anywhere! And everyone was right....if you want to see the cliffs, you need to see from the water. 100 percent correct!!! We also stopped at the top of the cliffs and if that was my only viewing of them I would have been disappointed. The trip to the island was also wonderful. Highly recommend doing the horse/carriage little tour. It's only 15 euro per person but gives you a little tour around the island and drops you at the pub for a little lunch. Overall…”

“This was a beautiful trip around Clew Bay. The staff were lovely. Got an interesting and funny history of the local Islands. It was great seeing the seals and birds up close too. You could rent binoculars onboard for €2! The trip flew and they had a man playing music at the end. We did evening tour which we greatly prefer. So peaceful. Well worth the 90 minutes.”
